Starting this Friday, Whitemud Drive from 53 Ave. to 159 St. will be reduced to one lane in each direction for concrete deck pours on the Quesnell Bridge.

"The amount of the components on a bridge such as Quesnell. It’s on a curve it’s got super elevation it’s wider than the other. It’s a very complex project," said Byron Nicholson, director of Edmonton roadways and construction.

The construction work will happen Friday night starting at 8:30 p.m.

The work is scheduled to take place at the following times:

* Friday from 8:30 p.m. until Saturday 10 a.m.
* Saturday from 8:30 p.m. until Sunday 10 a.m.,
* And Sunday from 8:30 p.m. until Monday 5 a.m.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their route ahead of time and detour using 114 St., 149 St., 159 St., Groat Road or Stony Plain Road.

The city estimates 120,000 commuters rely on this road everyday, and that is why according to Nicholson, the expansion is very much needed at this time.
